This antique cabinet from Italy is distinguished by its bold half-octagonal form, with a projecting central section flanked by angled, or canted, sides that create a strong, geometric silhouette. The top is formed from wide walnut planks with a molded perimeter edge. Directly beneath the top are three drawers, consisting of a large central drawer flanked by smaller drawers set within the angled side sections. The lower section houses four raised panel doors. A pair of doors occupy the central section while single doors are positioned within each canted side of the cabinet. Each door is centered by a distinctive raised diamond motif, creating a strong geometric decorative element repeated across the entire façade. The drawer fronts retain period brass drop pulls with shaped backplates, while doors are fitted with small escutcheons. The cabinet rests on a molded base with shapely bracket feet that create a shirted apron which lightens the visual weight of the piece and adds a subtle decorative flourish at floor level. Condition is consistent with age and centuries of careful use. The walnut surface displays expected wear, including scratches, cracks, and edge wear. Paired with a beautifully aged patina and excellent structural presence, adding desirable antique character. This 18th century Italian credenza would function exceptionally well as a dining room sideboard storing china, silver, and serving pieces while displaying lamps, ceramics, or artwork on the expansive top. Its striking angular form would also make it an ideal statement piece in an entry hall beneath a large painting or mirror. In a living room, library, or study, the cabinet's ample concealed storage and rich walnut patina provide both practicality and a sense of old-world architectural sophistication. See less
