This mid-century console cabinet from France balances classical architectural detailing with clean, practical lines. The five foot long, rectangular-shaped top has subtle rectangular step-outs at the front corners, slightly overhanging the case below that houses a highly functional configuration featuring six drawers in total, with three smaller drawers across the upper section, three larger central drawers below, and a single-door cabinet compartment on each side flanking the central drawer bank. This symmetrical arrangement creates a pleasing architectural composition while providing excellent storage versatility. Pilaster-like corner treatments adorn each of the front stiles, with vertically fluted carving. Each door is embellished with a centered raised diamond-shaped motif, while the recessed drawers at top have softly shaped panel decorations on their facades. Additional detailing appears at the corners, where small carved rosette blocks provide a refined transition between the case and the squared tapered legs that give rise to this piece. The upper drawers are fitted with decorative cast metal knobs with embossed floral or sunburst-style centers and warm aged brass tones. The larger central drawers feature rectangular brass bail pulls with geometric diamond shaped backplates. The finish presents a beautifully muted palette consisting of layered tones of soft creamy beige, sand, faded parchment, and complimented with a highlighted muted gray-taupe wash that softly outlines the cabinet's architectural details. This mid-century French console would make an exceptional dining room buffet, providing storage for serving pieces, linens, silverware, and entertaining essentials. It would also work beautifully in a living room beneath artwork or a large mirror, where the generous top could display lamps, books, ceramics, or decorative objects. See less
