This is a matching pair of vintage guardian lion (often referred to as Foo Dog) statues, crafted from copper with intricate cloisonné enamel work and gilded finishes. The lions are depicted in a seated, alert posture, with one resting its paw on a decorated ball (representing the world) and the other on a cub (representing nurturing).
The bodies of the lions are covered in a warm, golden-yellow enamel, richly decorated with vibrant, multi-colored floral and scrolling vine motifs in blue, green, red, and purple. The heads, manes, and facial features are heavily gilded, showcasing deep, curly detailing. They wear ornate gilded collars with decorative pendants. The gilding continues onto their paws and the detailed bases.
This pair is a classic decorative accent for entryways, mantels, or traditional interiors, symbolizing protection and prosperity.
