This substantial textile showcases traditional Burmese shwe gyi do-style raised embroidery, incorporating metallic gold and silver-toned threads, densely applied sequins, decorative beadwork, and layered fabric appliqué. The three upper medallions feature crowned or elaborately adorned figures, while the two larger lower medallions depict graceful, seated or dancing figures in traditional costume.

The dimensional embroidery creates a striking interplay of texture, pattern, and metallic detailing. A richly colored burgundy border provides contrast to the intricate central composition, while integrated fabric loops along the top allow for hanging.

The reverse retains a handwritten blue-ink inscription on the woven backing fabric. Its meaning and attribution have not been established.

Likely dating to the second half of the 20th century, this decorative textile reflects the longstanding Burmese tradition of ornate embroidered hangings. The exact age and workshop remain unknown.

Condition:

Good decorative vintage condition with age-related wear. The elaborate embroidery and figural medallions remain substantially intact. Metallic sequins show darkening and variations in finish, with some surface dust and minor loose or exposed threads.

The burgundy fabric border exhibits areas of fading, rubbing, and discoloration. Natural creasing, slight fabric irregularities, and wear consistent with age and previous handling are present.

The reverse has a handwritten blue-ink inscription and visible discoloration to the backing fabric. Minor losses to individual decorative elements cannot be ruled out.
