A matched Victorian style parlor set — a serpentine settee and a gentleman's armchair — both in beautifully carved dark walnut frames with original burgundy/rose channel-tufted velvet upholstery.
The woodwork is the star here. Both pieces feature deeply carved rose and bud crest rails at the top — full roses with leaves, rendered in rich dark walnut with wonderful depth and detail. The sofa carries a distinctive double-medallion back with carved flower medallions at the junctions of the wings. The chair features carved scroll and acanthus arm terminals and a scalloped crest rail with carved floral bouquet. Serpentine aprons and cabriole legs complete both frames.

Additionally, the gentleman's chair has a broken arm/leg junction and will require repair before use. The sofa is structurally sound with all legs intact. These are sold as a reupholstery and restoration project. For a skilled buyer — an upholsterer, furniture restorer, or designer — the carved frames are exceptional and well worth the work. Priced accordingly. Provenance: Original retailer tag from McLendon Furniture Co., 1022 S. Decatur Street, Montgomery, Alabama. American-made, circa 1950s–1960s Victorian Revival. less
