Vintage Humppila "Revontulet" art glass centerpiece bowl. Iconic piece of mid-century modern Scandinavian design. Designed by the celebrated Finnish artist Tauno Wirkkala in 1972 (the younger brother of Tapio Wirkkala), the series was produced by the historic Humppila Glassworks in Finland until 1987.
"Revontulet" translates poetically to "Northern Lights" or "fox fires". The centerpiece utilizes a specialized casting technique that masterfully emulates "shattered ice" or frozen icicle shards radiating outward from a central base, capturing and scattering daylight like frozen water.
