One Famille Rose design covered porcelain bowl.
My mother acquired this piece while living in Iwakuni, Japan, where my USMC father was stationed. She had a unique relationship with an antiquities dealer there, and this was one of many purchases between them but it was one of her favorite pieces.
In superb condition, I have not yet found a receipt or paperwork, but it is genuine. If I find anything, I will forward it to the new owner.
It measures 6” tall by 11” in diameter and is heavy, weighing 7 pounds, 9 ounces.
Research finds this box bowl likely dates back to the Qing Dynasty (late 1800s-early 1900s). Because I am not an antiquities expert, I could be wrong about this. The painting details are beautiful. The interiors of both pieces are clearly glazed, but the base is not.
Although I can not detect an odor, I think it has a thin ‘coat’ of nicotine and will be much brighter once more thoroughly cleaned. There is also one small paint drop that can be removed.
