"Fleurs Devant La Mer", or "Flowers Before the Sea" features a large arrangement of flowers and foliage in a series of woven baskets. White daisies mingle with yellow and orange blossoms, while tall, graceful green leaves rise dramatically through the composition. Behind the flowers stretches a sparkling blue sea and distant mountainous coastline. Henry was known for combining flower arrangements with landscapes and seascapes, using color and light as central elements of his compositions. The painting is presented in a giltwood frame with linen liner, with a brass artist plaque centered along the lower edge. It is signed 'Michel Henry' in the lower left corner. On the reverse side of painting there are auction history labels confirming provenance and auction history. Of particular interest are the Wally Findlay Galleries, Palm Beach, FL and Prestige Art Galleries, Skokie, IL labels. Henry was represented in the United States by Wally Findlay Galleries, which exhibited his work in cities including New York, Chicago, and Palm Beach.
In modern homes, this is a versatile painting as it combines the decorative appeal of a large floral still life with the openness of a coastal landscape. It will make an impressive focal point above a console, fireplace mantle, sideboard, or sofa. This painting will complement Coastal, Mediterranean, Palm Beach regency, Traditional, Transitional, or Collected Contemporary Interiors. See less
