This authentic LC4 chaise lounge chair designed by Le Corbusier was produced by Cassina between 1976-1978. The chair features a classic black leather pad and headrest on a tubular steel frame with polished chrome finish and a black lacquered steel base. The LC4 chaise lounge is a Bauhaus classic and is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Each piece is signed, serial numbered and manufactured by Cassina under exclusive worldwide license from the Le Corbusier Foundation. Embossed with Le Corbusier signature and serial number "LC4 4618" to chrome frame. Made in Italy.
LC4 Chaise Longue
The iconic and ageless LC4 'chaise longue' chair was created by Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret in 1928 and exhibited at the Paris Salon d’Automne in 1929. Starting with the analysis of lounge chairs and the proportions inferred by Le Corbusier in the Modulor, the chaise longue embodies the relationship between form and function in the balance between design purity and comfort in the shape of the seat, which is modeled on the natural contours of the body. Le Corbusier held that furniture should be “extensions of our limbs and adapted to human functions.” Designed to echo the natural curves of the human body in repose, the moveable “floating” frame of this iconic chaise adjusts along the base, following your every move from upright sitting to full recline. Known as the “relaxing machine,” the LC4 balances form and function with beautiful precision.
CONDITION
Very good vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use. The four leather snap straps that connect the chair pad to the frame have been remade to spec. Minor age wear to welting along edges of chair pad. The black steel base shows some surface scratches and mild patina as per photos.
