The original oil painting on canvas panel board in painted in 2015 by the artist Jim Lyons. The Abstract Expressionist style composition is created using a traditional French En Plain Air easel painted technique. It features a land and seascape view of the West End Breakwater located at the west end of Commercial Street on The Bay Beach Harbor of Provincetown, Massachusetts.

The West End Breakwater, technically a 6,150 ft granite dike also known as The Long Point Dike was constructed between 1911 and 1914 by The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to protect Provincetown Harbor from shifting sands and barrier beach breaches. Designed to connect the west end shoreline to the sandy spit at Wood End on Long Point. Today, the 1.25 mile rock path is open to the public as a walking trail out to Wood End Light and Long Point Lighthouse.

The breakwater at the west end of Commercial Street marks the historic location in Provincetown Harbor that was the initial anchoring place of The Pilgrims traveling on The Mayflower in 1620, before they proceeded to Plymouth, Massachusetts. Peregrine White, the first child born to The Pilgrims in New England, was born while they were in Provincetown Harbor at this site in 1620.

There may not be a pile of rocks anywhere in the world as beloved as Provincetown's West End Breakwater. Generations of residents and visitors have clambered over it - to arrive at Wood End Lighthouse or the beach beyond, or to get out onto the flats at low tide and marsh beyond them, or simply to be there, out on those rocks.

The framed Abstract Expressionist painting measures 17 1/4" W X 13 1/4" H X 2 3/8" D.

It is custom framed in a Contemporary Modern natural white oak wood minimal profile deep sided museum box style floater frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.

It is in excellent " like new " condition. The painting is in excellent " like new " clean condition consistent with age, very light signs of handling, and very light minor wear.
