This vintage studio pottery lidded bowl is a warm, earthy piece of hand-built stoneware with a soft, pillowy silhouette. The rounded body swells gently from a narrow foot and carries two chunky, pinched side handles that look pressed from the clay by hand. A domed lid sits snugly over the rim and is topped with a bold, arched loop handle that curves up and over in one confident gesture. The glaze runs from golden ochre and amber to deeper tobacco and chestnut, with smoky gray-brown flashes where the kiln flame touched the surface. Fine iron speckling dots the glaze like freckles, and subtle brush-like swirls on the lid add movement. Light and dark tones blend softly, with a satin sheen on the body and a more matte, toasted finish on the lid. The unglazed rim and lid edge expose raw terracotta-toned clay, which gives a pleasing tactile contrast. Slight asymmetry and visible throwing marks confirm the maker’s hand, and the saturated, kiln-fired palette feels organic, grounded, and unmistakably studio-made.
Generous yet cozy, this piece suits a kitchen counter, dining table, open shelf, or sideboard, where it can hold fruit, sugar, kitchen staples, or simply sit as a sculptural accent. It complements Organic Modern, Rustic, Boho Chic, Japandi, and Farmhouse interiors. The bowl measures 10 inches wide, 8.5 inches deep, and 7.75 inches high, including the lid handle. Condition is very good: the original glaze has a naturally developed patina with minor surface irregularities and glaze variations typical of handmade pottery, and there are no visible chips or cracks. For care, dust with a soft dry cloth and hand wash gently with mild soap and warm water. Avoid sudden temperature changes and abrasive pads.
