This is a finely crafted antique gilt bronze sculpture of Green Tara, a revered female Bodhisattva in Tibetan Buddhism known for her swift compassion and protection. The figure is seated in the lotus position (padmasana) upon a double-lotus base adorned with green cabochon stones. She has a serene, gilded face with downcast eyes and a jeweled crown. Her hands are positioned in the mudras of giving and refuge, and she holds the stems of two flowering lotuses that blossom at her shoulders. She is adorned with an elaborate, beaded silver-toned necklace and flowing robes in deep green and red, with silver-toned trim. The sculpture retains much of its original gold gilding, with a rich, aged patina and traces of polychrome paint on the base.
