This is a finely crafted antique gilt bronze sculpture of Tsongkhapa, the renowned founder of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. The figure is seated in the lotus position (padmasana) upon a double-lotus base, with hands clasped at the chest in the teaching gesture (dharmachakra mudra), holding the stems of two lotuses that blossom at his shoulders. He wears traditional monastic robes with intricately engraved, copper-toned borders, and a distinctive pointed yellow hat with long, draped ear flaps. His serene face features a gilded finish, downcast eyes, and red-painted lips. The sculpture displays a rich, two-toned patina, with silver-toned robes contrasting with the gilded skin and copper-toned accents.
