This is a matched pair of antique gilt bronze sculptures depicting Qilin, mythical hooved creatures revered in traditional Asian culture as symbols of prosperity and good fortune. Each figure is captured in a low, crouching or stalking pose, with its head lowered and mouth slightly open, as if in mid-roar. The Qilin features a scaled, muscular body with a prominent spine, a flowing mane painted in a dark red pigment, and a stylized, curled tail. The bronze is extensively gilded, retaining a bright, warm gold luster on the raised scales and body, with a dark, aged patina in the recesses that highlights the intricate, high-relief casting details. The pieces are structurally sound and presented as a pair.
