This is a finely crafted antique cloisonné enamel sculpture of Manjushri Bodhisattva, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom in Buddhism. The figure is depicted seated in the lotus position (padmasana) upon a double-lotus base. She has a serene, gilded face and wears an elaborate, pierced crown, along with a red and blue enameled shawl draped over her shoulders. Her body is adorned with a turquoise-blue enameled robe decorated with multi-colored floral and scrolling cloud motifs. In her raised right hand, she holds a sword (representing the cutting of ignorance), and her left hand holds a lotus stem that supports a sutra book. The figure is extensively gilded, retaining a bright, warm gold luster with a natural, aged patina in the recesses. The base and lotus throne are finished in gilt bronze, with enamel decoration on the top surface of the throne.
