A long, narrow carved frieze in red and gilt: a row of robed figures in dark caps moves along a veranda, with a flowering branch at the right. The carving is shallow and rhythmic, and the finish is red with gold touches. We read it as Chinese, likely Late Qing.
Framed at 20 inches wide and 10.5 inches high on natural grasscloth with a thin gilt frame, it is the longest of the narrow panels in this group. It is made for places a standard picture will not fit: above a bed, a door, a mirror or a low window. Hang it level and let the line of figures run across the wall.
