A beautiful pair of antique bentwood chairs showcasing the graceful curves and expressive detailing associated with the Viennese Art Nouveau bentwood tradition.
Each chair features an exceptionally detailed steam-embossed wooden seat, with a radiating fan/palmette motif that is particularly striking up close. The sweeping double-loop backs and curved supports give the chairs an elegant, sculptural silhouette while retaining the lightness characteristic of traditional bentwood construction.
The design is strongly reminiscent of Thonet bentwood furniture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The chairs do not retain a maker's label, so they are offered as Thonet-style/attributed bentwood chairs rather than definitively identified as a Thonet production.
The pair has been carefully restored by Hilaire Furniture, preserving the original character and decorative details while refreshing the finish for contemporary use.
A versatile pair that would work beautifully as parlor chairs, accent chairs, occasional dining chairs, or alongside a writing desk or small café table.
