A striking pair of handcrafted Venetian-style masquerade masks, richly decorated in vibrant colors with elaborate raised gold embellishments and beautifully antiqued finishes. Inspired by the centuries-old Carnival traditions of Venice, Italy, these distinctive masks offer a wonderful combination of theatrical artistry and Old World European elegance.
The first mask features a dramatic Bauta-inspired silhouette in deep crimson red, antique ivory, and metallic gold. Graceful Baroque-style scrolling ornamentation accents its angular form, creating a particularly elegant and sophisticated appearance.
Its companion is a traditional Medico della Peste, or plague doctor mask, distinguished by its dramatically elongated beak and intricate Harlequin-inspired diamond pattern in black, ivory, and metallic gold.
The plague doctor mask retains its original manufacturer’s label identifying La Corte dei Miracoli, an Italian workshop, and confirming its handmade papier-mâché construction and Venetian origin. Both masks bear handwritten markings on their interiors, although the maker of the red and gold mask has not been independently verified.
Beautifully complementary in color, craftsmanship, and design, these masks create a captivating decorative pairing. Ideal for an eclectic gallery wall, theatrical or maximalist interior, Venetian-inspired décor, or a distinctive collection of European decorative arts. They are equally appealing for Carnival celebrations, masquerade balls, and sophisticated Halloween decorating.
