A ceramic owl by German ceramic artist Helmut Friedrich Schäffenacker (1921-2010). This ceramic piece depicts an abstracted blue and brown owl with yellow eyes, perched with its wings out. It is unmarked.
Helmut Friedrich Schäffenacker completed an apprenticeship with sculptor Rudolf Pauschinger before opening his own studio "Atelier Schäffenacker." During the second half of the 1950s, Schäffenacker shifted his focus to making ceramic wall panels, primarily with figurative motifs in relief. Schäffenacker continued to create until 1993, when his kiln fell into disrepair.
