This antique peroba wood table from Brazil, with a design distinguished by its clean lines and well-balanced proportions, features a long, rectangular plank board top that overhangs a deep apron which houses a single drawer at its center, fitted with simple iron ring pulls. Gracefully tapered legs lend visual lightness to the substantial frame, while subtle molding around the apron adds a refined architectural detail. Peroba is one of Brazil's most highly regarded native hardwoods, renowned for its density, strength, natural resistance to wear, and remarkable longevity- making it especially desirable for furniture intended to last generations. The richly aged patina, with visible grain variation, and hand-worked construction details, showcases a fabulously mellow luster that only age can create. The table exhibits expected wear including surface scratches, edge wear, separations to the plank top, finish losses, and areas of age-related distressing. These imperfections contribute to the table's authenticity, character, and historic appeal. This 19th century Brazilian console is a versatile piece which would work exceptionally well in an entry hall beneath a mirror (with useful drawer to stash keys, mail and other whatnots), as a sofa table, in a dining room as a serving table, or along a hallway displaying artwork, lamps, pottery, or other collected objects.
