Saturated oranges and golden ochres build the blooms, with olive green stems and warm coral shadows. The paint is laid on so heavily that every brushstroke stands out against the visible weave of the canvas. Flower painting has a long and proud history in Belgium, and early 20th century Belgian painters were known for bold, expressive color and a loose hand. This small work shows that spirit in its warm, glowing palette. It is framed and ready to hang, and it would bring a note of color to a gallery wall, a desk or a kitchen. See less
