A classic example of Central Asian tribal weaving, this antique Afghan Ersari rug brings a bold, architectural presence to any interior.

Hand-knotted in the 1920s, this rug features a deep, saturated madder-red field characteristic of the Ersari Turkmen tribes. The central composition is anchored by a vertical row of four large, octagonal guls—often referred to as "Elephant Foot" motifs—filled with intricate geometric detailing in midnight black. The surrounding borders are densely packed with traditional star and diamond fretwork, creating a rich, textured frame.

The rug is in original good condition, showcasing a lustrous wool pile and robust construction. It features some areas of natural low pile, which serves to enhance its authentic antique character and highlights its century-long history. Its dramatic contrast and geometric simplicity make it a perfect fit for a masculine study, a modern industrial loft, or a traditional library.
