An authentic early 20th-century original etching titled "Dropping the Tug" by renowned Rhode Island marine artist, shipbuilder, and illustrator George Gale (1893–1951).
Executed in the 1930s, this fine nautical work depicts a full-rigged tall sailing vessel casting off its towline from a steam tugboat on open waters. Gale's lifelong background as a mariner and master model builder is evident in the precise rendering of the vessel rigging and authentic sea texture.
Works by George Gale are held in prominent institutional collections, including the Museum of the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), the Nantucket Whaling Museum, and Mystic Seaport.
