The fish is depicted in an upright, leaping pose, with its body rendered in vibrant cloisonné enamel. The body features a deep red ground decorated with yellow scale patterns and green scrolling vine motifs, with a white flower detail near the head. The fish has applied bronze fins, tail, and prominent bulging eyes, and is topped with a separate, spherical finial decorated in turquoise enamel with floral and cloud motifs. The figure rests upon an intricately cast bronze base depicting a rocky, lotus-filled pond with smaller fish and wave motifs. The bronze base exhibits a rich, dark patina, and the underside bears a cast seal mark.
