This is a substantial antique gilt bronze sculpture of a toad, likely representing the Jin Chan (Golden Toad), a mythical creature revered in traditional Asian culture as a symbol of wealth and prosperity. The toad is depicted in a crouching, alert pose with a fierce expression, bulging eyes, and a wide mouth holding a coin. Its body is covered in a distinctive, textured pattern of raised bumps, and its back features prominent horn-like ridges and flowing, flame-shaped tufts. A string of coins is draped across its back, further emphasizing its association with wealth. The bronze is extensively gilded, retaining a bright, warm gold luster with a natural, aged patina in the recesses that highlights the intricate casting details. The base is hollow and features a single circular opening.
