This is a matched pair of impressive antique gilt bronze candlesticks, each exquisitely cast in the form of a phoenix. The mythical birds are depicted in a dynamic, upright pose, with their wings folded and their heads turned back to support the candle cup, which features a metal pricket for holding a candle. The bodies of the phoenixes flow seamlessly into the elaborate, flared bases, which are decorated with stylized, layered feather and scroll motifs. The bronze is extensively gilded, retaining a bright, warm gold luster with a natural, aged patina that highlights the intricate casting details. The bases bear a cast seal mark.
