This is an exquisite antique gilt bronze sculpture of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, a revered figure in Buddhism known for his vow to save all beings. The statue depicts the deity seated in a relaxed, royal posture upon a lotus base, which in turn rests on a reclining mythical beast, likely a lion. The figure is adorned with elaborate, finely detailed robes and jewelry, and holds a tall, ornate staff (khakkhara) in his right hand and a wish-fulfilling jewel in his left. The head features a blue-pigmented hairstyle and a serene, downcast expression. A striking feature is the large, pierced, flame-shaped mandorla (aureole) behind the figure, which is finished in a deep red pigment and backed with gold. The bronze is extensively gilded, retaining a bright, warm gold luster.
