This is a large and impressive antique gilt bronze sculpture depicting Zhang Tianshi, a revered Taoist deity and celestial master. The figure is seated astride a large, powerful tiger, his traditional mount. He is depicted with a fierce, commanding expression and a long, textured beard, wearing flowing robes adorned with a prominent Bagua (trigram) medallion on his chest and another on his hip. In his raised right hand, he holds a sword, while his left hand holds a small cup. The tiger is modeled with great detail, featuring a snarling expression, sharp teeth, and engraved stripes across its muscular body. The base is formed as a stylized, swirling cloud or rock formation. The bronze is extensively gilded, retaining a rich, warm gold luster with a beautiful, aged patina that reveals darker metal in the recesses and high points. An inscription is visible on the back of the figure's robe.
