The cage is of traditional square form with rounded corners, constructed with vertical wooden bars and horizontal rails. It is distinguished by its ornate details: the top panel and the lower base are both inset with cabochon gemstones, including green, red, and blue stones set in decorative metal mounts. A metal hanging hook is mounted at the very top. The interior is fitted with a wooden perch and two blue-and-white porcelain cups for food and water. The base features a sliding tray for easy cleaning, which is shown partially pulled open. The piece exhibits a dry, aged surface with a light dusting of patina in the crevices, characteristic of old wood that has been stored for many years.
