This is an impressive antique bronze incense burner featuring a finely detailed Qilin, a mythical hooved creature revered in traditional Asian culture. The piece is constructed in two sections: the upper portion is a sculpted Qilin seated atop a tall, openwork column decorated with intricate scrolling cloud and wave motifs. The Qilin is depicted with a fierce, expressive face, a red-painted mane and jaw, and a body covered in detailed scales and ridges, finished with gilt highlights. The lower section is a square, footed base with a recessed top that serves as the incense receptacle. The base is also decorated with wave patterns and stylized ruyi cloud feet. The bronze exhibits a rich, warm patina with fading gold gilding and areas of green oxidation, giving it a deep, historical character.
