They are Hand-carved from dense hardwoods. They feature high-relief carving (bas-relief) that creates distinct layers of depth. The carvings depict traditional Chinese folklore, historical story-telling, or everyday pastoral and courtly life.
Left Panel: Showcases figures interacting outdoors beneath a stylized willow tree, accompanied by a goat, symbolizing rural peace or a specific legendary scholar.
Right Panel: Portrays a gathering of courtly or divine figures emerging from auspicious swirl clouds, framed by rocky mountains and pine trees - symbols of longevity.
Historically, panels like these were integrated into architectural elements, window lattices, folding room dividers, or the doors of large wedding beds and dowry cabinets during the late Qing Dynasty into the early 20th century.
