Antique 18th-century French engraving after François Boucher (1703–1770), presented in an ornate black and gilt frame.
The print is based on drawings by François Boucher, a French Rococo artist. The subjects are *chinoiserie*—European imaginative interpretations of Chinese themes, a popular trend in the 18th century.
• The publisher of print is Gabriel Huquier (1695–1772), based on Rue Saint-Jacques in Paris. The inscription "C.P.R." stands for *avec privilège du roi* ("with royal privilege"), a standard mark on French prints of that era.
• Technique: etching and engraving (intaglio printing from a metal plate).
Thema: Chinese Woman and Man with an Umbrella
• Inscriptions on the sheet: "F. Boucher in.", "P. Aveline Sculp." (engraved by Pierre-Alexandre Aveline), "A Paris chez Huquier rue S. Jacques C.P.R.".
• Number "89" in pencil at the top right; likely from an old collection or a dealer.
• Series unidentified. The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds a suite by Huquier after Boucher titled *Scènes de la vie chinoise* (c. 1742), but it has not been verified whether this sheet belongs to it.
• Condition: clear, high-contrast impression. The paper has darkened evenly and shows signs of foxing (rust-colored spots). There is an area of abrasion and paper loss at the lower left, partially affecting Boucher's signature. The sheet is mounted on cardboard, and the margins have been trimmed close to the image.
