A rare and beautifully preserved pair of ceramic vases by acclaimed Italian ceramist Bruno Gambone, likely dating from the 1960s–1970s, a period when the artist was deeply engaged in exploring sculptural form and tactile surface in functional objects.
Each vase presents a distinct but harmonious silhouette: a strong, square base that transitions into a slender neck and opens to a subtly flared mouth. The surfaces are finished in a soft, speckled cream glaze, evoking a natural, almost stone-like texture that feels both modern and timeless.
A striking horizontal banding at the base combines deep black and rich terracotta-red, creating a bold graphic contrast against the lighter field above. In the final close-up image, a delicate hint of blue-green glaze under the neck introduces an unexpected, elegant accent that further enriches the palette and speaks to the nuance of Gambone’s glazing technique.
Both pieces are signed “Gambone Italy” on the base, confirming both authorship and Italian origin. The pair remains in excellent vintage condition, with minimal signs of age and wear, making it ideal for collectors of post-war Italian ceramics or as a refined sculptural accent in contemporary interiors.
Bruno Gambone followed his iconic father, Guido Gambone, to lead the Florence ceramic studio in 1969.
Influenced by his time in New York alongside figures like Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg, Bruno moved away from his father's colorful motifs toward architectural, muted, and beautifully geometric forms. Today, his pieces are internationally sought-after museum-quality works of art.
