The figure … Read more This is a finely cast antique gilt-bronze statue of Avalokiteshvara (also known as Guanyin), the Bodhisattva of Compassion. The figure is depicted in the classic "Royal Ease" posture (lalitasana), seated with the right knee raised and the right arm resting gracefully upon it, hand supporting the cheek in a contemplative gesture. The left hand holds a lotus stem. The figure rests upon a tiered, octagonal lotus base, backed by an elaborate, flame-shaped mandorla (aureole) featuring intricate openwork scrolling clouds and a central lotus rosette.

The deity is adorned with an elaborate, pierced crown containing a small image of a Buddha, large circular earrings, and layered beaded necklaces. The face displays a serene and meditative expression with downcast eyes and a gentle smile. The statue features a rich, bright gilding with a warm patina, and the base bears a recessed, square seal mark reading “大明宣德” (Da Ming Xuande).

The reverse of the mandorla shows the hollow, unfinished casting, typical of traditional production methods. This is an elegant and spiritually significant piece, perfect for a collector of Asian antiques or as a peaceful focal point in a curated space.
