Every piece of antique furniture tells a story, but this exceptional pair of 1930s French Art Deco club chairs carries its own travel passport. Discovered tucked away in the legendary antique quarters of Paris, these chairs still retain their original paper transit labels from EDET International—the renowned Saint-Ouen flea market logistics house specializing in global transport for high-end art and fine antiquities. These labels serve as an ironclad badge of origin, verifying that this pair was hand-selected in France and safely exported across the Atlantic as genuine period pieces.
Stylistically, the chairs represent the peak of the 1930s French Moderne aesthetic. Moving away from the heavier, bulky shapes of traditional club chairs, this design features striking, sculptural hardwood bentwood arms that elegantly frame the ivory leather upholstery before flowing down into structural block-style feet. The dark wood panels boast a beautiful, reflective high-gloss finish that perfectly contrasts against the cream tones of the leather.
At some point in their later life, the chairs underwent a premium, professional restoration to ensure they remain functional for decades to come. The removable seat cushions were updated with heavy-duty metal zippers stamped by YKK, a hallmark of top-tier 20th-century upholstery conservation. Inside, the original decaying horsehair filling was replaced with exceptionally high-quality, high-density foam cores wrapped in a canvas lining. Supporting this from beneath the deck is a traditional interwoven tension webbing system. The result is a seat platform that is remarkably sturdy, firm, and supportive—entirely free of the uncomfortable sagging common in un-restored antiques.
This pair is beautifully intact, structurally rock-solid, and ready to serve as the crown jewel of a living room, study, or sophisticated mid-century modern interior.

Both chairs are structurally sturdy, firm to sit on, and free of any structural damage or tears to the leather. The high-gloss wood arms and block feet exhibit minor surface scratches and faint scuffs consistent with age, authentic use, and international travel. The light cream leather shows gentle patination throughout. The upholstery is overall intact but would benefit from a professional leather cleaning to refresh the light color tones and elevate them to pristine showroom condition. Pristine woven dust covers remain completely intact across the bottoms. less
