This is a loose plein air oil study of shifting clouds, painted on location. Soft aqua sky breaks through warm ochre and creamy white clouds, with dark, smoky clouds at the edge. The oil painting is on a hard-board panel, set in an vintage gold leaf frame. The frame is old and shows it. It has been repaired several times over the years, and you’ll see worn gilding, silvery patches where the leaf has rubbed through, dark patina in the recesses, and visible repairs. I chose it because the wear adds character. It’s a frame with a layers of history, and it’s still beautiful.
The overall size of the piece is 20"x16" with the inner painting at 14"x10'. Signed on the back, ready to hang. Painting by Suzanne Nicoll.
