A finely crafted example of American folk art, this early-20th-century tramp art box showcases exceptional chip-carving and layered wood whittling techniques. Built from salvaged wood, the exterior features a dense, highly textured geometric facade built with multiple pyramid-stacked layers, notched borders, and prominent diamond-shaped and starburst cartouches.
The hinged lid opens to reveal a later addition of whimsical, vintage-style floral paper lining in soft yellows and pinks, adding a striking contrast to the rustic, dark-toned patina of the exterior. Fitted with an integrated brass lock and original hinges, this rare keepsake casket box serves as both a sculptural conversation piece and a functional storage box for jewelry or mementos. Perfect for collectors of outsider art, rustic Americana, or unique decorative objects.
