An original sculptural ceramic work from Diane Grant’s 'Tower of Babel' series, developed between 2021 and 2022. Inspired by the biblical narrative in Genesis (11:1–9), the series explores the relationship between architecture, mythology, archaeological research, and the enduring human impulse to build monumental structures.
With its dark, reflective glaze and densely layered architectural forms, 'Tower of Babel No. 7' evokes the fragmented silhouette of an imagined ancient structure. Projecting volumes, irregular planes, and a richly textured surface create a compact sculptural composition in which construction and fragmentation coexist. The work translates the myth of Babel into a contemporary ceramic language, bringing together architectural references, material experimentation, and expressive form.
Conceived as both a sculptural object and a functional vase, this unique piece can be displayed independently or integrated into a collection of contemporary ceramics, architectural objects, and sculptural forms.

About the artist
Diane Grant is a multidisciplinary artist working across ceramics, painting, sculptural furniture, and lighting. Her practice draws on art history, architecture, urbanism, and archaeology, translating historical and spatial references into contemporary sculptural forms. Through the juxtaposition of geometric structures, organic volumes, and varied material surfaces, she explores the relationship between object, architecture, and material presence.
Her ceramic work reflects an interest in layering, structural tension, and the dialogue between primary geometric forms and complex, irregular configurations, informed in part by the experimental ceramic practices of Peter Voulkos and Stan Bitters.
Her works are held in private collections in Paris, London, Rome, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, and Dallas, and have been presented at international art and design events, including PAD London and AD Intérieurs in Paris.
