A distinctive pairing of decorative pottery, combining a signed Betty Selby Southwestern figural vessel with a Japanese Tokoname ring-form sake vessel. Cream, pale blue and soft green unite the pieces, while their contrasting shapes create a sculptural tabletop composition.
The Betty Selby vessel features a broad, rounded body, an arched handle and a projecting spout. Black pictograph-style imagery wraps around the cream ground, depicting stylized human figures, birds, animals and footprint motifs. Pale blue accents frame the decoration at the neck, handle and lower body. Signed “Selby” underneath, the vessel bears the number 201 and markings indicating 1994. Its accompanying “Pottery Originals by Betty Selby” information card describes the maker’s hand-finishing and hand-painting practices.
The Japanese vessel introduces a low, circular silhouette with an open center, an elevated funnel-shaped mouth and a tapering spout. Loose green brushwork accents its softly speckled cream glaze, complementing the graphic decoration of the Selby piece. It was identified as Japanese Tokoname studio art pottery in its original estate cataloguing.
Selected together by House of Hareitage, these vessels bring individual character and a harmonious palette to a console, library shelf or collected tabletop. Sold together as a two-piece decorative set, including the Betty Selby maker’s information card.
DESIGNER NOTES
Arrange the taller Selby vessel slightly behind the ring-form piece to showcase their contrasting heights and open silhouettes. Their soft colors sit beautifully against dark wood, aged brass, linen and woven textures, adding an artistic accent to Southwestern, eclectic and Organic Modern interiors.

No visible damage or breaks. The Betty Selby vessel retains adhered newspaper fragments and associated surface residue. Both pieces show surface marks and variations in their decorative finishes consistent with age and handling. There is a separation line at the joint between the Japanese vessel’s neck and body; its nature is undetermined, but appears to be how the piece was made and/or baked. Please review the close-up photographs for this and other surface details. The accompanying Betty Selby maker’s card shows age-related discoloration and marks. less
