X Large vintage 1990s Nystrom First Globe, originally designed as an educational school/classroom geography globe. Nystrom was a major supplier of maps and globes to American schools, and the First Globe was part of its educational line.

One of the coolest features is its two-way display design: use it traditionally on a tabletop or mount it on the wall, where it becomes a sculptural, interactive piece of art. Mounted in a full metal meridian, allowing the globe to be rotated and positioned at different angles.

Features aqua blue oceans, detailed political cartography and very pronounced raised-relief topography—you can actually feel the mountain ranges and changes in terrain.

Measures approximately 18” in overall diameter with its substantial gray metal base and full metal meridian. The globe itself is marked 40 cm / 16”.

Dates to approximately 1993 based on the countries and political boundaries shown.

Great piece for a postmodern home, industrial loft, eclectic, academic or library interior.
