An exceptional example of French luxury design, this sculptural stainless steel ice bucket was designed by acclaimed French designer Thomas Bastide for Hennessy’s prestigious “The Collection” and produced in collaboration with the distinguished French silversmith Ercuis Paris, established in 1867.
Far more than a conventional bar accessory, this striking creation transforms the traditional ice bucket into a functional work of modern sculpture. Its dramatic architectural silhouette, sweeping circular surround, and fluid asymmetrical contours reflect Bastide’s distinctive design philosophy, emphasizing movement, light, balance, and refined ergonomics.
The beautifully executed stainless steel construction combines a lustrous satin finish with highly polished reflective surfaces. Its sweeping orbital surround encircles the vessel in a remarkable composition reminiscent of 1960s Space Age design and French modernist sculpture. Subtle, repeated Hennessy signatures appear along the metalwork, further distinguishing this sophisticated designer collaboration.
Thomas Bastide is internationally recognized for his contributions to French luxury decorative arts, particularly his celebrated work with Baccarat, the legendary French crystal manufacturer established in 1764. His designs are distinguished by sculptural fluidity, organic geometry, sophisticated light reflection, and an exceptional ability to elevate functional objects into decorative art.
The manufacturer, Ercuis Paris, represents another important element of this object's distinguished pedigree. Founded in 1867, Maison Ercuis has earned international recognition for fine silverware, luxury table accessories, and sophisticated metalwork produced within France's longstanding tradition of decorative craftsmanship.
This ice bucket was created for Hennessy's designer series known as “The Collection,” representing the intersection of French cognac heritage, contemporary artistic expression, and refined entertaining.
Especially desirable is the accompanying original crimson presentation box, prominently displaying the Hennessy name, “The Collection,” Thomas Bastide's signature, and the Ercuis Paris 1867 designation. The original identification label remains present, referencing “HY SEAU M.O.T.” and “T. BASTIDE,” providing important documentation supporting the designer attribution.
The sculptural silhouette is particularly well suited to sophisticated Mid-Century Modern, Space Age, Hollywood Regency, French Modernist, and contemporary interiors. Whether displayed on an elegant bar cart, incorporated into a curated collection of French decorative arts, or used for refined entertaining, this remarkable object makes an impressive architectural statement.
An outstanding opportunity to acquire an unused example of French designer barware, accompanied by its original Hennessy presentation packaging.
