Elegant, sculptural and wonderfully decorative, this vintage mid-century modern double-compartment magazine rack dates to approximately the 1950s and combines graceful metalwork with a warm teak wood base.
The design is especially striking, with rhythmic wave-form wirework, delicate spherical accents, dramatically arched handles and slender splayed legs terminating in rounded feet. The repeated curved lines give the piece a light, almost architectural quality despite its substantial size.
A rich wood platform at the base adds warmth and contrast, while the open double-compartment construction provides plenty of room for magazines, newspapers, books, catalogs or LP records.
The metal framework has been carefully refreshed with a semi-gloss metallic brass enamel finish, both restoring its warm golden appearance and helping protect the surface from future oxidation. The result is a beautifully revived piece that retains its vintage character while presenting exceptionally well in a modern interior.
At 20 inches tall and 17.5 inches wide, it has enough scale to make a decorative statement beside a lounge chair, sofa, reading nook, desk or record console without overwhelming the room.
Its combination of warm wood, golden metal and sculptural linework allows it to work beautifully in mid-century modern, Hollywood Regency, contemporary, eclectic, traditional-modern and glam interiors.
Condition: Excellent restored vintage condition. The metal framework has been refinished in semi-gloss metallic brass enamel and presents beautifully. The structure is solid and stable, with no significant dents, bends or damage. The wood base is also very well preserved.
A fabulous piece of functional mid-century décor that looks every bit as good empty as it does filled with favorite magazines, art books or vinyl records.
Any photographs showing furniture or additional décor are included only to demonstrate styling and scale. Only the magazine rack is included with the purchase.
