these pieces belong to a series of decorative objects created by leroy upon his return from guadeloupe. Between 1933 and 1936, the sculptor resided in the archipelago thanks to the henry bérenger prize, where he created numerous portraits and scenes inspired by local life.

upon his return to mainland france, he adapted several of these subjects for production in porcelain and earthenware by the gdv factory, which later became porcelainerie avignon. This production included bookends, salt cellars, ashtrays, and statuettes.

both pieces bear the printed signature e.a. Leroy sculpteur as well as the gdv bavère stamp. This piece has an attribution mark,
