A pair of ceramic table lamps with distinctive, slender bodies made of molded glazed ceramic. The bases feature proportions inspired by the form of a vessel: the cylindrical lower section transitions into a gently tapering neck, topped by a contoured flange that holds the lampshade. The combination of a full, compact base with a wide, conical lampshade gives the lamps balanced, classic proportions.
The decoration of the ceramic bodies is based on a rhythmic arrangement of horizontal bands. Deep shades of brown and terracotta dominate, broken up by a wide, milky-white band and darker, textured relief areas. Fine, regularly repeating incisions and dots form a decorative frieze, whose relief remains an integral part of the ceramic surface. The contrast between the glossy sections of glaze and the matte, textured decoration is one of the most significant qualities of these pieces.
The form and surface treatment are in keeping with the distinctive style of postwar Italian Bitossi ceramics, which combined traditional ceramic techniques with modernist geometry, textural experimentation, and intense glazing. Bitossi ceramics from the 1960s often featured relief surfaces and combinations of contrasting color bands.
The ceramic bodies are complemented by brass mounting elements and simple lampshades. Their neutral form remains subordinate to the decorative bases, without competing with their distinctive texture. The pair is preserved as a cohesive set with identical form and decoration, characteristic of Italian Mid-Century Modern design. This piece has an attribution mark,
