A distinctive 1930s art deco upholstered stool by jindřich halabala for up závody, originating from czechoslovakia. The stool showcases halabala's characteristic approach to geometric and sculptural furniture design. Its compact body is formed from several softly rounded upholstered sections, creating a striking stepped silhouette. The patterned textile is framed by decorative braid, accentuating the geometric construction and giving the piece a distinctly elegant art deco appearance. The stool incorporates a spring-supported seat and rests on a sculptural wooden base with four curved feet. The combination of geometric upholstery and flowing wooden elements creates a particularly interesting contrast between rigid art deco geometry and organic forms. The wooden structure has been restored and treated with natural bio oil, while the upholstery has been newly renewed. The restoration preserves the original character of the piece while making it suitable for contemporary use. Comparable halabala stools from the 1930s are documented as being designed by jindřich halabala for up závody, with examples having similar compact proportions and art deco construction.
