This exceptional piece represents the height of early 20th-century Chinese weaving, blending traditional imperial motifs with the cleaner, more expansive aesthetic favored during the Republic period. Such refined examples are highly sought after by collectors of antique rugs.

The composition is defined by a striking contrast between the expansive, luminous field and the deep indigo elements. The field utilizes a sophisticated ivory color palette, which allows the sparse, yet powerful, geometric motifs to command attention without overwhelming the space. This characteristic open field is a hallmark of the finest Peking production.

Detailed examination reveals the meticulous use of traditional Chinese iconography. The central medallion and the stepped corner spandrels are executed in crisp, angular fretwork—a pattern symbolizing eternal continuity. Along the main border, stylized Shou symbols, representing longevity and good fortune, are carefully spaced to enhance the rug's formal balance.

Woven from high-quality wool, this piece retains a remarkable clarity of design and pile integrity commensurate with its age. Its specific dimensions (6ft x 8.07ft) make it ideal for illuminating transitional spaces, providing a rare opportunity to acquire a distinctive example among hallway runner rugs that marries historical significance with practical elegance.
