A handsome antique English teapot of black transfer-printed pearlware, in the type collectors often call “Salopian.” Large blossoms and acanthus scrolls are printed in black across the body, spout, and handle, with a blue-painted edge accenting the rim and lid. The shape is a shapely square form with concave sides, a pagoda-style lid with a floral finial, a curved spout, and a sharply angled handle with a flat thumb rest.

The bold, graphic pattern and generous scale (a full 12" from handle to spout) give it great shelf presence. It would look wonderful in a collection of early transferware or as a standalone piece on a sideboard or kitchen shelf.

Condition: Good antique condition with honest signs of age. There are minor glaze flakes at the spout tip, a glued chip to the lid edge, and a small chip to the underside of the lid knob.

Dimensions: 12" handle to spout x 5 3/4" W x 7 1/2" H See less
