Rare Antique Blown Flint Glass Compote, Pittsburgh, Circa 1830s
:
A rare and impressive early American blown flint glass compote, made in Pittsburgh in the 1830s. The generous 10" bowl has a flared, rolled rim, and the lower bowl is molded with a band of rounded petals that catch the light. It sits on a baluster-form stem and a broad, circular foot. The glass is clear and heavy, and it rings like a bell when tapped, the sign of good lead (flint) glass.
At nearly 9" tall, this is a substantial piece with real presence, equally at home as a centerpiece on a dining table, sideboard, or open shelf. Early Pittsburgh glass is prized for its form and clarity, and examples in this size and condition are hard to find.
Condition: Excellent antique condition. No chips or cracks. Minor wear to the foot consistent with age and use.
