In the tradition of Italian Grand Tour souvenirs, this model reflects the Neoclassical fascination with ancient Roman architecture.

A circular colonnade of columns with decorative Corinthian-style capitals surrounds a central chamber with brickwork detailing and a rectangular opening. The textured tiled roof and stepped circular bronze platform capture the distinctive form of the ancient temple.

The model rests on a contoured, peach-and-gold veined marble base, providing a warm contrast to the aged bronze patina. An appealing piece for an architectural collection, library, desk, or cabinet of curiosities.

Comparable models were often designed as inkwells or pastille burners, with a removable center roof cover. This example is missing that cover and is offered as a decorative sculpture. Exact age and maker are unknown. See less
