A signed Japanese Cloisonne enamel vase, circa 1990, decorated with an allover arrangement of butterflies in purple, white and gray against a glossy black ground. The vase has a broad, rounded body, gently sloping shoulders, a short flared neck and a circular foot, with contrasting metal rims at the mouth and base.

The butterflies vary in size and orientation, creating a lively sense of movement across the curved surface. Their simplified silhouettes give the design a distinctly modern character, while the subtle purple and gray tones soften the striking contrast between white enamel and the deep black background.

The decoration continues around the body and onto the foot, making the vase attractive from every angle. Its generous proportions and restrained palette give it a strong sculptural presence, suitable for display on its own or within a collection of Japanese enamel.

The underside bears a maker’s mark, with the maker’s identity remaining unconfirmed.
